A Guide to Moving to Fort Myers
Posted by Mikki Ludecke in Austin, Local Guides and Resources
Georgetown, TX is a charming suburb just a half hour’s drive from Austin. Residents of Georgetown enjoy a special sense of community with one another through the city’s abundance of things to do.
We asked some of our Georgetown homeowners what their favorite parts of living in this beautiful Texas gem are so you could get an inside glance at what it’s like to live here!
Things to Do in Georgetown, TX
- Shopaholics will swoon and foodies will fawn over Georgetown’s luxuriant variety of local shops and restaurants, including the right mix of options to be had at the Wolf Ranch Town Center and Georgetown Square. Home to antique stores and boutique shops, you can get your fill of new treasures to take home at the beautiful town square. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, choose from Grape Creek Winery, Gumbo’s, Monument Cafe, 600 Degrees Pizzeria and Drafthouse, Barrels and Amps, or All Things Kids—the latter of which includes Scoopz, a beloved ice cream bar. We asked one of our own Georgetown M/I homeowners (and M/I employee!) for her personal take on Georgetown Square:
- Georgetown’s parks leave nothing to be desired for the outdoor devotee. With activities like hiking and biking trails, playgrounds, disc golf, basketball and volleyball courts, soccer and baseball fields, dog parks, picnic areas, splashpads, swimming holes, fishing spots, and even an equestrian arena, here are some of our locals’ go-tos:
- San Gabriel Park
- Blue Hole Park
- Garey Park
- Speaking of getting active, Georgetown is a city teeming with avid runners! If you enjoy getting kudos from your Fitbit for miles and calories, it’s easy to find a local race, running group, or trail to keep you on-pace for those fitness goals! Races galore await your enrollment, like the Dresses for Dreams Global 5K, Red Poppy 5K, and infamous Georgetown Turkey Trot; you’ll quickly find that you feel energized not only from the exercise, but also because you’re joining a group of friends who want to make a difference by running for the various causes these races contribute to.
- Friendships in this Texas destination are special because inhabitants just can’t get enough opportunities to meet up and celebrate as a community. Some of the annual Georgetown events you just can’t miss out on are First Fridays, Second Saturday Market Days, the Georgetown Wine and Music Festival, Lighting of the Square, and many, many more!
The “Square” is where we take all of our out-of-town guests! My husband and I personally love going to Grape Creek Winery for a glass of wine and to listen to some live music, then we take a stroll over to 600 Degrees for some pizza—we probably do this at least once a month!
What It’s Like to Live in Georgetown, Texas
- Georgetown’s residents live here not only for the superabundance of activities, but also for the economic value proven by several recent reports. Georgetown is thriving; it’s no wonder it was recently named the 7th fastest growing city in all of the United States! Need more proof that living here is out of this world? Georgetown was the first city in Texas to operate entirely on renewable energy! Now that’s not something many other cities can lay claim to!
- Part of the freedom to get out and enjoy this special city is made possible by its safety ranking, making it stand out even more starkly against other Texas areas to live. Being able to trust the streets of your family’s neighborhood is a nonnegotiable necessity. Georgetown is actively ensuring that safety is a top priority.
- Living here in Georgetown also perfectly situates you to surrounding Texas cities for stress-free commutes, weekend road trips, and additional lasting family memories. The HEB Cedar Park Center hosts the Austin Spurs, Texas Stars, and year-round concerts. Georgetown’s neighbor Cedar Park also boasts the shopping destination The Parke, meaning that if The Square’s shops don’t have what you’re looking for, this nearby line of shops is bound to.
