What Is an Owner’s Suite?

An owner’s suite—formerly called a master bedroom—is the largest bedroom in the home, typically with a spacious walk-in closet as well as an en-suite adjoined bath that is also the largest of all the bathrooms.

The room is ideally situated privately in the home’s design to designate the space apart from the secondary bedrooms. The home’s owner(s) usually claim this suite and go all-out in décor, furniture, lighting, and structural options!

What Do I Need in My Owner’s Suite?

First, you’ll need a bedroom that boasts your design style:

  • Do you prefer bright colors or soft neutrals?
  • Do you favor a canopy bed or a simple wood headboard?
  • Do you want to add a reading nook or a coffee bar?

Whatever your interests, make sure you don’t compromise on your must-haves in this space. It should be your own personal oasis!

Next, take the time to plan a well-designed closet with ample storage room customized to your wardrobe. If you have an expansive shoe collection for instance, you’ll want shoe shelving and box storage space that can show off each pair with its own space.

Owner's Walk-In Closet

Make a home spa in your owner’s bathroom with a walk-in shower and/or a soaking tub, his-and-hers vanities, and high-end products for self-care day whenever you feel like it!

How Do I Decorate and Arrange My Owner’s Suite?

First and foremost, you’ll want to decide on your favorite color scheme, dream bedroom set and furniture, and a few stand-out pieces like a chandelier or statement piece of wall art.

Consult a bedroom design expert for help with Fung Shui and flow throughout your layout, or browse Pinterest or Houzz for more inspiration. An architectural highlight is always a great showstopper, such as a stepped ceiling or exposed beams.

Go for a dramatic pop of color or an upscale tile in your bathroom for further wow factor in the space. Choose the plushest bath linens, freshen the space with your favorite candles or flowers, and invest in plenty of bright lighting for getting ready.

Prioritize storage and comfort in each of your selections throughout your suite: closet shelving that accommodates your full wardrobe, dressers and vanities that include plenty of compartments, and separate storage for you and your partner—this keeps everything in each of your own spaces for optimal efficiency in your daily routines.

Finally, add a few finishing touches such as artistic vases, house plants, and bookshelves that make your space personalized and polished.
