The living room is the heart of the home—where we relax, entertain, and spend time with loved ones. That’s why it’s so important to make sure your living room is both stylish and functional.

Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to refresh your existing space, here are some of my favorite living room design ideas to inspire you.

Narrow Down Your Color Palette

One of the easiest ways to give your room a cohesive look is to choose a color scheme. This can be as simple as picking two or three colors that you love and incorporating them throughout the room, or it can be more complex, with multiple shades and tones.

Consider the mood you want to create. A pairing like soft blues and greens can create a calming atmosphere.

Black tones will grab everyone’s attention and can add striking contrast when paired with lighter shades of white and tan.

Once you’ve chosen your palette, see if your space needs a few more accessories to highlight your chosen color scheme.

Add in Some Greenery

Plants can breathe life into your décor. Having greenery in a space has also been known to reduce stress levels and increase productivity.

If you’re worried about upkeep choose plants that are low-maintenance and easy to care for!

Invest in Comfortable Seating

Your living room should be the go-to space to kick back and relax, so make sure you have plenty of comfortable seating options. Consider investing in a sectional to seat the whole family as well as a plush armchair to relax in and dive into your favorite book.

If you have limited space, opt for multifunctional pieces like ottomans or a pouf that can function as a chair, extra tabletop, or footrest!

Incorporate Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are a great way to get a bang for your buck. Regularly changing throw pillows can give your living room a whole new look by mixing in various hues and designs to create a unique visual style.

Consider Storage Solutions

Clutter can make a living room feel cramped and disorganized, so it’s important to have storage solutions in place. Consider adding built-in shelves with lower cabinets for storing extra items or a stylish ottoman to keep things tidy and in place.

Mix and Match Textures

Layering different textures can add depth to your space, adding overall intrigue to your living room. Try pairing a cotton couch with chunky leather throw pillows or a wool rug. This will create a dynamic and appealing space for you and your guests!

Textured Living Room

Add a Personal Touch With a New Focal Piece

Your living room should reflect your personal style, so don’t be afraid to add elements that are meaningful to you. Adding a focal point of furniture, art, or decor to your living room will draw everyone’s attention and really showcase your personality.

Consider the Lighting

Proper lighting is essential for any room, and the living room is no exception. Adding new light fixtures can brighten up your space and highlight certain features.

Add a glamorous chandelier to bring a chic charm to the living room that complements the space while providing plenty of overhead lighting.

In addition to overhead lighting, consider adding floor lamps or table lamps for task lighting to illuminate a reading corner.
