Exclusive Whole Home Building Standards: A Better-Built Home

There’s standard building code, and then there’s M/I. We only want to build homes that we’d want to live in ourselves. And we had to create better building standards of our own to do it.

Built into every M/I Home in Orlando

From the very beginning, it’s been our goal to build a better home with the features and benefits that give you confidence and lasting value. We employ the latest techniques in building science, even creating our own building standards that improve upon standard code. From foundation to rooftop, from wall to wall, we’re constantly striving to give our homeowners the very best in solid, sound, energy efficient living. For more than 40 years, homeowners have counted on M/I Homes for quality, integrity, trust and care. You can, too.

Exterior A/C Pads

Are poured when your exterior concrete is, not when the slab is. We also give you about twice the thickness. This protects the pad(s) from construction damage and insures perfect placement for maximum HVAC efficiency. Our approximate 5 1/2 to 6-inch concrete thickness is far more stable.

Extra Care Around Your Electrical Box and Meter

This includes a scratch coat of stucco that is primed. It's an extra layer of protection around the box and meter.

Decorative Address Plaque

This finishing touch speaks to the overall quality of your new M/I home.

Raised Heel Truss System

Allows us to install R38 insulation all the way to the eaves.

Right-sized Windows.

By going beyond the minimum standards for secondary bedroom egress windows, your bedrooms are brighter and better lit.

100% Whole Home Certified

Independent testing determines the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Score for every M/I home. This will tell you how much energy you can save compared to standard building code.

3,000 PSI Concrete

It's a superior foundation for your new home.

Satin Exterior Paint

It's more durable and touches up better than flat paint. The finish also enhances the color tones and improves rain run-off.

Independent PH Factor Tests

We conduct these tests on stucco before we paint it. This results in superior paint adherence that extends the life of the paint.

Open-Web Floor Trusses

These allow ductwork to be installed with a minimum of airflow restriction, while maximizing structural integrity.

Solid Surface Window Sills

We use them on all windows because they're more durable, more pleasing and they outperform wood sills.
