One of our personal favorite uses for a modern loft space is a home office.
Tucked away enough that it provides considerable privacy, yet still inviting natural light and easy accessibility, this loft-turned-office boasts a neutral and calming color scheme, built-in shelving to store both decorative pieces and work documents, and plenty of space to work!
You can also combine work space with lounge space to get even more daily benefits out of a loft. A small desk near a seating area still accommodates your productivity, but when the workday is done it allows for a seamless transition to rest and relaxation.
Or, if you’re using your loft as the place to escape the hustle and bustle of life, position a comfy sofa near a window and opt for a small TV to allow for either getting lost in a good novel or browsing Netflix for a binge-worthy show.
Open Loft Design Ideas
If your loft is positioned in a shared space with other common areas, be cognizant of surrounding rooms and potential noise.
This open loft holds the perfect setup for finishing up homework, drawing, or journaling, but it isn’t intended for daily home office use.

Small Loft Design Ideas
If your space is more rectangular or boutique in size, opt for singular use in your loft.
Stick to strictly an office or living area, but not both.
A small loft doesn’t mean that only one household member can use the space at once, however! Try a shared table with plenty of seats. This is great for doing puzzles together, working on a craft, or at-home tutoring sessions.
