Those are just a few of the ways homeowners have described their Hans Hagen home. These characteristics have stood the test of time since Hans Hagen made its debut to the Twin Cities over half a century ago.
Whether you’re just starting your home search journey, wanting to know more about Hans Hagen floorplans, or anything in between, keep reading to discover what makes these new construction villa homes so special!
What Is a Hans Hagen Home?
A Hans Hagen home is a 1-level villa that you can build in several M/I Homes communities throughout the Twin Cities.
In most new construction communities that offer Hans Hagen villa floorplans, there are 2 types available to choose from: patio villas or basement villas.
- Patio villas are built on a slab foundation, meaning there’s no basement. All that you need is on one main level with no stairs and ample storage solutions throughout.
- Basement villas (also known as ramblers) include a basement—either unfinished or finished depending on your need for additional livable space or just a little extra room for storage.
Now it’s time for the fun part: walking you through a typical tour inside a Hans Hagen home, space by space!
Foyer
From the moment you swing open the front door and step inside, you’ll notice a bright, warm, welcoming atmosphere, thanks to the extra wide foyer hall. Greet your guests in this inviting space before guiding them into the heart of your home: the open-concept living area.
On your way there, look up to admire the arched soffits in the hallway or the wing walls above the den entry, which offer an intimate touch and a sense of grandeur right from the start.
Kitchen
Because we know just how integral the kitchen is to your daily life, we’ve made sure the kitchen in our Hans Hagen homes check each and every box.
The central island plays an important dual role of functionality and invitation: it provides a blank slate for your cooking and baking creations, and it also beckons conversation with family members and guests as a gathering place.
A corner positioned pantry with built-in shelving offers more than enough space to store and organize all your canned goods, snacks, small kitchen appliances, and more.
Owner's Suite
The marvelous Hans Hagen owner’s suites offer a true oasis right in your own home! Optional vaulted ceilings, en-suite bathrooms with dual-sink vanities, and walk-in closets are just a few of the features you’ll find inside.
Storage Space
We know you have clothes to organize, food to store, decorations to put away, and tools to have on hand. From the optional 3-car garages to the attic storage* and basements, to closets in nearly every room, there’s no shortage of storage solutions throughout each Hans Hagen home.
Finished Basements
If you decide to build a basement villa, consider a finished basement, where you can elevate this prime entertainment space with design options like a wet bar, a fireplace, or even additional bedrooms and bathrooms for guests.
Where Did We Get the Name "Hans Hagen?"
Over half a century ago, Hans Hagen stood at the precipice of something extraordinary. His canvas? The land beneath his feet. His medium? Not paint or clay, but lumber, drywall, bricks, and beams.
Hans was not your ordinary home builder. He was an architect of dreams. Each villa blueprint thoughtfully curated, every nail driven with purpose.
And he didn’t just design these homes; he lived in them because he wanted to experience them for himself.
For more than 50 years, the Twin Cities area knew no other name in home building when it came to craftsmanship and integrity. Then in 2015, M/I Homes stepped onto the stage, ready to echo Hans’s legacy.
It was much more than an acquisition; it was a handshake—a nod from one era to the next. A natural partnership, stitched together by time and vision with an enduring commitment to building quality homes while always treating the customer right.
