You’ve made an appointment for your first model home tour, now what?

Coming prepared for your appointment is very important, but it is also a lot easier than you may think.

I’ve asked 2 experienced New Home Consultants—with a combined 30+ years with M/I Homes—how you can prepare for your appointment!

What Buyers Need to Bring to Their First Model Home Tour

“We suggest the main decision-makers attend the appointment so all the initial information is heard and understood.” –Joy Adkins, New Home Consutant

1. Examine Your Finances to Have an Idea of What You Can Afford, Including an Ideal Monthly Payment and a Down Payment

Budgeting

Knowing how much you can afford is very important so our New Home Consultants can guide you in the right direction, but it doesn’t need to be an intimidating task.

In fact, you can read solutions to common home buying myths before your appointment.

If you haven’t talked with a lender and have been pre-approved, that’s okay: the New Home Consultant can put you in contact with a loan officer from M/I Financial. They can discuss your finances with you and get you approved to purchase your dream home!

2. Estimate When You Need to Move

Whether you are leasing, relocating, or selling your home, knowing the timeframe of when you need to be moved in will help your New Home Consultant nail down available homes to work with your timeline.

3. The Most Fun Part: Assemble Your Must-Have List!

Knowing what you need in your next home and what isn’t working in your current home will guide your New Home Consultant to the right floorplan.

In each community, we offer numerous floorplans, each with options to cater the home to your exact needs. Listening to what you are looking for and pairing you with your dream home is what our expert New Home Consultants do best.

4. Put Together a List of Questions to Ask About the Home Buying Process

  • Ask what your options are with your timeframe: Learn whether a Quick Move-In or a To-Be-Built home is best for you
  • Find out if the floorplans you like are available to walk through
  • Discuss what is included in each home and the options you can add to or upgrade: Find out the price for items you want so you can budget for that in your purchase
  • Inquire about homesite options and if there are any added prices on those: You want to know what location options you have to build the home you want and which fit into your budget
M/I Homes Model Home

“We don’t need to sell you a home on the first day; we want to help you see everything and find the perfect fit for your family’s next home!” –Angela Kohler, New Home Consultant

Now that you are prepared for your first model home tour, you can walk in with confidence that you will find that house to call your home!
